Reserves fly home to steal win from Grubbers

May 15, 2021

Anglesea had to dig deep against the wind in the final term to claim a heart-stopping seven-point victory over Ocean Grove.

With the final change against a Grubbers side that were able to keep the hosts at arm’s reach throughout the third quarter, the Seas rose to the occasion to secure the 9.6 (60) to 8.5 (53) victory.

The Seas were the faster starting team, making the most of the breeze at their backs to lead by two goals at quarter time.

The Grubbers hit back after the break, putting three goals through while the hosts were kept goalless to take a seven-point lead at half-time.

The reserves belting out the song in Rory Angiolella first game.

The opportunities in front of goal were even for both sides in the third quarter despite the Seas having the assistance of the breeze, with the hosts closing the gap but left the Grubbers in the box seat ahead of the last term.

But the Seas found ball movement easy for the first time in the game in the final quarter and their pressure around the ball was unrelenting, with critical goals to Calvin Altman, Dylan Taylor and Tom Presnell sealing the win.

Thomas Keogh, Darcy Elliott, Presnell, Taylor, Rory Angiolella and Max Mcintosh named as the best players in the victory, while Altman was the only multiple goalkicker with three.

The win moves the reserves to 4-3 ahead of a big clash against Torquay.
